Tourism, research and capability training, industry and trade, poverty alleviation and commercialization of education are among the issues and needs raised during the “Regional Forum on Research and Manpower Development Issues in CALABARZON” held last November 29, 2006 at the ACTETSME Conference Room, Science and Technology Park, UPLB, College, Laguna.

Representatives from various sectors: planning, tourism, education, environment, trade and industry and agriculture attended the forum who came from the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas and Quezon.

Congressman Luis Villafuerte of Camarines Sur recently visited UPLB last January 26, 2007. UPLB hosted the lawmaker at the ACTETSME Complex. During the meetings, Congressman committed to support the establishment of a Center for Technology, Entrepreneurship and Commercializatio which will assist in incubating various technologies developed by the university for its clientele, particularly the micro, small and medium enteprises.

DTI Undersecretary Zorayda Amelia Alonzo, accompanied by several representatives of DTI agencies, met with Chancellor Luis Rey Velasco, Vice-Chancellors Enrico Supangco and Roberto Rañola, Jr, and ACTETSME Executive Director Mario Perilla last January 5, 2007 to discuss how the department can support the university in transferring its technologies to micro, small and medium-scale enterprises.

Also participating during the meeting with Usec. Alonzo were Ms. Alice Opeña (Division Chief, Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprise Development), Ms. Elizabeth Manuel (Trade Business Management Division Chief, Philippine Trade Training Center), members of DTI's Small and Medium Enterprises Development Group; and Ms. Jazrina Malli of the Office of the DTI Secretary.

The DTI officials also visited the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Technology to observe some of the technologies developed there, and the Dairy Training and Research Institute.

Ms. Jazzi Malli from the Office of the Secretary, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Assistant Director Jerry T. Clavesillas of the Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprise Development (BSMED), and a representative from the Philippine Trade and Training Center (PTTC) met with ACTETSME Executive Director Mario Perilla last November 16, 2007 at the ACTETSME.

The group discussed the status of activities of ACTETSME in relation to the SME development agenda of the government and how ACTETSME, DTI, BSMED and PTTC can collaborate in pursuing plans to assist the micro, small and medium-scale enterprises in the country.

The management of the ACTETSME met with the representatives of the Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, and UK-based Sheffield Chamber of Commerce last July 27, 2006 at the CCP's office in Intramuros, Manila. During the meeting, Dr. Mario Perilla, Mr. Emmanuel Almonte, Mr. Gerry Constantino and Ms. Laura Grieve discussed the proposal to establish an EU-Philippine Cyberlink System that would serve as a gateway of various market information to promote trade and investment between EU, the Philippines and APEC-member countries.

The Center celebrated its 10th year of founding by celebrating its SME Week last September 4-8, 2006 at the ACTETSME Building. For a whole week, the center conducted an exhibit, fora, presentation of technologies and meetings with people from the government and industry. The center also recognized its past directors and outstanding personnel. UPLB Chancellor Luis Rey Velasco, Vice-Chancellor Enrico Supangco, representatives from DTI and the office of Cong. Chipeco of Laguna, and several industry players graced the week's opening.
